Mobile phones

The mobile phone industry has grown incredibly in the last number of years. The amount of mobile phone contracts in Europe alone equates to the equivalent of two phones per person. There are a number of different phone companies all boasting the latest models and features and there is constantly a barrage of new devices, services and price plans being pedalled to the consumer.

With the growing number of tariffs, special offers, features and extras it can be quite confusing knowing what you want out of a phone and indeed your tariff. A number of pay as you go companies offer you free minutes or texts when you top up, which could mean you save on line rental, and is especially good if you don’t use your phone that much. Companies have even started enticing people with free gifts on 18 month contracts, laptops, cash back, tellies etc. Even Apple (Ipod, macintosh) have released an all singing, all dancing touch screen phone. Are extravagant devices like this really worth it if you’re just going to make a few calls on it? Are they more style than substance? Of course features like MP3 playback are common on many phones and can negate the necessity to own a separate device, as can camera phones. Wifi and Voip can all now be accessed straight from your mobile so is line rental even necessary these days? Clever little devices.
